Housing First Approach

Prioritizing a Housing First approach allows those experiencing homelessness to be able to focus on other vulnerabilities they are facing. We’ve created a plan with strategies in place to make the issue of homelessness in our community rare, brief, and non-repeating.

TOGETHER IS BETTER

Rooted in collaboration, Heading Home strives to bring homelessness in our community to a functional zero. By partnering with other agencies and organizations around a shared vision, our community can offer better support services to those experiencing homelessness.

BUILT FOR ZERO

Heading Home and our partners joined Built for Zero in May, becoming Indiana’s first region to be part of this national network of support to decrease homelessness through a data-driven, Housing First approach. Our core team is working with BFZ to ensure that our community’s decisions are made using the most accurate information possible. This work will ultimately lead to a public data dashboard to show our progress in reducing homelessness.

CREATED FROM COMMUNITY

Since the initial idea in 2014, the Heading Home project has built an ethos of support and participation with organizations from across Monroe County and in the city of Bloomington. Today, a variety of people from different sectors and industries have partnered together to strengthen housing security in our community though a unified strategy.
