Legislators make recommendations for 2023 Indiana General Assembly to address affordable housing crisis

Housing Task Force convened this fall by the Indiana General Assembly has released its final report, with recommendations to address the state’s affordable housing shortage.

Recommendations include:

  • Support additional state funding for infrastructure projects related to housing development through revolving loans or grants.
  • Support more resources for brownfields redevelopment and efforts to improve efficiencies at the state agencies who fund and approve brownfields redevelopment projects.
  • Support tax incentives for homeownership programs targeted at first-time buyers or low income buyers.
  • Support consideration of novel approaches to tax sales that would enable certain qualified community development groups to compete against institutional investors for tax sale properties.
