GUIDED BY THE COMMUNITY-DEVELOPED HEADING HOME PLAN

Launched in 2021, Heading Home’s founding partners included the City of Bloomington, Monroe County Government, the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the South Central Housing Network, United Way of South Central Indiana and other community organizations.

Our work is guided by the community-developed Heading Home Plan, which identifies system-level issues that can be improved to eliminate barriers to housing or to expedite access. The plan is grounded in the concept of Housing First, which stresses the need for secure housing before other issues can be addressed.

HEADING HOME STAFF

Heading Home’s office is located at Dimension Mill, a co-working space in Bloomington’s Trades District.

MARY MORGAN

Executive Director

Mary Morgan is Executive Director for Heading Home of South Central Indiana. She currently serves on the boards of the South Central Housing Network, Bloomington Housing Authority and its Summit Hill Community Development Corp., and Downtown Bloomington Inc. She is a member of the Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition Steering Committee, a statewide advocacy group, and served on the Landlord Engagement Task Force for the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority.

A former journalist and graduate of Indiana University, Mary lives in downtown Bloomington with her husband, journalist Dave Askins.

TATIANA WHEELER

Associate Director

Tatiana Wheeler is Heading Home’s Associate Director. A graduate of Indiana University, Tatiana Wheeler studied Law and Public Policy at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She serves on the Bloomington Commission on the Status of Children and Youth, and chairs the board of WellSpring, which runs an emergency shelter and permanent supportive housing program in Martinsville.

In February 2023, Tatiana received an Outstanding Black Leader of Tomorrow award from the City of Bloomington.

Erin Reynolds-Nylund

Housing Solutions Director

Erin Reynolds-Nylund is Heading Home’s Housing Solutions Director. In this new role she oversees a team of street outreach workers and diversion and prevention case managers who are working across Bloomington to prevent and alleviate homelessness.

Erin holds a master’s of social work degree from Indiana University, and previously was an external practicum instructor at New Hope for Families.

Mary Hamric

Strategic Partnerships Director

Mary is originally from South Bend, but has lived in Bloomington since 2014. She graduated from Indiana University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Social Work and Psychology. She spent nearly 5 years working as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Monroe County, keeping families unified and motivating positive behavior change. Mary then spent 3.5 years at New Hope for Families, first as a Housing Case Manager, and then as the Shelter Director for 2 years. Mary is passionate about the Heading Home model for ending homelessness for all youth, families, and single adults.

When she is not at work, Mary can be found coaching high school lacrosse, hiking, and/or hanging outside with her husband, daughter, and 2 dogs.
