Grant for Veteran Housing

Heading Home of South Central Indiana has received a $25,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to help unhoused veterans in South Central Indiana find housing.

The grant supports Heading Home’s efforts to connect veterans experiencing homelessness with stable housing while providing critical assistance to veterans at risk of losing their homes. Funding will help address immediate housing needs and provide the resources necessary to promote long-term housing stability for those who have served our country.

“Veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in service to our nation, and every veteran deserves a safe and stable place to call home,” said Tatiana Wheeler, Heading Home’s Associate Director who leads the veteran initiative. “We are grateful to the CenterPoint Energy Foundation for investing in solutions that help veterans secure housing, maintain stability, and access the support they need to thrive.”

Veterans experiencing housing instability often face challenges that extend beyond the availability of affordable housing, including financial hardship, health concerns, and barriers to accessing community resources. Heading Home works closely with local service providers, landlords, and community partners to ensure veterans receive coordinated, individualized support that helps them obtain and maintain permanent housing.

The CenterPoint Energy Foundation’s investment will strengthen these efforts by expanding resources available for housing assistance and homelessness prevention, allowing Heading Home to respond quickly to veterans in crisis. CenterPoint Energy Foundation’s Energizing Veteran Resilience grants honor the nation’s 250th anniversary by awarding grants to veteran-serving eligible nonprofit organizations within CenterPoint Energy’s footprint.
