Housing Problem-Solving

Heading Home workshop focuses on strategies for helping people solve their housing crisis.

A May 15, 2024 workshop hosted by Heading Home of South Central Indiana provided an overview of housing problem-solving, a strategy designed to help people address their housing crises by identifying their strengths, challenges and potential solutions.

Melissa Bell, diversion team manager for HealthNet’s Homeless Initiative Program, was the featured speaker.

Housing problem-solving aims to prevent entry into homelessness or quickly resolve a
household’s homelessness. It is a person-centered, conversational approach that
seeks to identify flexible and cost-effective alternative
housing solutions that can be implemented quickly.

The strategy is based on Housing First, crisis response principles that emphasize client choice and equitable practices.
