Lawrence County
Landlord Appreciation
Event hosted by Heading Home and the Lawrence County Housing Task Force strengthens partnerships
On June 11, Heading Home and the Lawrence County Housing Task Force hosted a Landlord Appreciation Luncheon that drew about 40 landlords, property managers, elected officials and service providers.

The event, held at the Bedford Men’s Warming Shelter, focused on building partnerships to strengthen housing for low-income residents.
Attendees heard from agencies that serve people experiencing homelessness or who have limited resources for housing: Bedford Housing Authority, Bedford Men’s Warming Shelter, Becky’s Place, Indiana Health Centers, and Hoosier Uplands. (View slides from the presentations here.)
The event also highlighted landlords and property managers who work with low-income residents and who are valuable partners in addressing this community’s housing needs. The group discussed what incentives are needed to encourage landlords to accept tenants with Housing Choice Vouchers, known as Section 8.
Special thanks to 812 BBQ, a family-owned business that donated food for the luncheon.
The luncheon stemmed from work of the Lawrence County Housing Task Force, which was created earlier this year and is co-chaired by Bobbie Ames, executive director of the Bedford Housing Authority, and Heading Home director Mary Morgan. The task force is part of a broader regional initiative to address housing insecurity in South Central Indiana. Read more about the Lawrence County effort here.
