Partnerships to End Veteran Homelessness

Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington provides resources to veterans facing housing insecurity

Since 2023, Heading Home has led a regional initiative to end veteran homelessness.

On March 19, the Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington hosted Heading Home at their lunch meeting. Tatiana Wheeler, Heading Home’s associate director who is leading the veteran homelessness initiative, gave club members an update on this effort. The Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington is a key partner in this work as they run a Veteran Assistance Fund to help veterans facing housing insecurity.

Heading Home’s regional coalition has been holding bi-weekly case conferencing sessions since January 2023 focused on veteran homelessness. Veteran case conferencing is an inter-agency, client-focused meeting that targets next steps to find housing for veterans.

The case conferencing group includes staff from Beacon Inc, Wheeler Mission, New Hope for Families, Volunteers of America, Monroe County Veterans Affairs, Indy HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program (HIP), HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH), Bedford Men’s Warming Shelter, and WellSpring in Martinsville.

Since this initiative began, our partners have helped house more than 50 veterans in this region!

If you would like to learn more about this work or ways you can support our region’s aim to end veteran homelessness, contact Tatiana Wheeler.
