South Central Indiana
Achieves Quality Data

Built for Zero milestone reflects comprehensive, real-time data source that tracks homelessness.

In August 2024, the region of South Central Indiana achieved Built for Zero’s quality data milestone for all single adults, including veterans and those experiencing chronic homelessness. This milestone signifies a comprehensive, real-time data source that tracks homelessness across the region — a key step toward solving homelessness and reaching the community’s next goal of functional zero for veteran homelessness.

Heading Home’s public data dashboard provides monthly updates related to this region’s efforts to end homelessness.

The South Central Indiana team has been working with Built for Zero for over two years. In 2022, Heading Home created the regional team to join Built for Zero, a national organization working to equitably end homelessness in over 100 communities. South Central Indiana is the only region so far to be part of the Built for Zero movement.

As part of this effort, Heading Home created a public data dashboard that provides monthly updates on housing placements, the number of people experiencing homelessness, the length of time it takes for someone to find housing, and other metrics about homelessness in this region.

By-name data, updated monthly, provides a comprehensive picture of homelessness in our community and allows us to make data-driven decisions to move people more quickly into safe, stable housing.

The South Central Indiana region covers Monroe, Morgan, Lawrence, Owen, Greene and Martin counties.
