Staying Safe During
Severe Winter Weather
Effort aims to improve a coordinated response and prevent deaths & injury.
Staff from nonprofit agencies and local government gathered on Oct. 16 to discuss the community’s response to severe winter weather.
The Region 10 Winter Contingency Plan is approved by the South Central Housing Network to document how a variety of entities will mobilize when severe weather hits. The goal is to prevent death and injury due to harsh conditions.

This year, Heading Home of South Central Indiana facilitated development of this plan and led a community training session to review details and get further input.
The session also included a presentation by Ashton Jacobs, a nurse practitioner with HealthNet’s Homeless Initiative Program (HIP). He provided practical advice on how to identify and treat injuries related to severe winter conditions.
